Abstract	The nature and severity of the injuries sustained by the occupants of light forward control vans, including vans adapted for use as passenger vehicles, was compared with the injuries sustained by the occupants of conventional passenger cars. The comparison was based on data from the Motor Accidents Board in Victoria. It was found that van occupants injured in frontal crashes were more likely to have sustained serious injury and more likely to have sustained leg injury than were car occupants injured in frontal crashes. The results obtained from the epidemiological investigation described above were then considered in the light of information obtained from the detailed examination of crash damage to light forward control vans. The deficiencies observed in the frontal impact protection provided by these vans were consistent with the results of the first part of the investigation. Recommendations are made for changes to the safety regulations applicable to light forward control vehicles.
