TitlePriorities for research on alcohol and road traffic accidents
AuthorsMcLean AJ
Year1985
TypeConference Paper
AbstractWe know that intoxicated drivers are over-represented in fatal crashes (1). We also know that the risk of being involved in an accident increases more and more rapidly with increases in a driver's blood alcohol level '(2,3). What more do we need to know? Why not concentrate on getting the intoxicated driver off the road rather than worrying about priorities for research? The purpose of this paper is to show that much of our knowledge about alcohol and crashes may not be as well-founded as we suppose and that this can impede the development of effective countermeasures.
