University of Adelaide Foundation Lecture, April 1984 | Authors | McLean AJ | Year | 1984 | Type | Presentation | Abstract | What shall we do with the drunken driver? Why should we want to do anything? Other, perhaps, than "Put him in the long boat until he's sober". Our desire to intrude on the privacy of the drunken driver arises from the reputation that he; and it nearly always is he, not she; has for being particularly likely to kill or injure himself, his passengers and sometimes other road users. How well founded is this reputation? After all there is no real social stigma attached to a reasonable propensity to kill or injure someone on the road; accidents do happen, even to the best of people. Does the drunken driver really deviate far from the social norm. | Conference Name | University of Adelaide Foundation Lecture | Conference Location | Adelaide, Australia | Conference Date | April 1984 | Page Count | 19 | Notes | available from CASR library on request |
