For one hundred years the Woman's Christian Temperance Union and the Baptists, the Salvation Army and the Rechabites have been united in this message: an alcoholic plague has settled on Australian society. Unlike the constancy of its message, the political power of the temperance movement has declined. This makes it all the more surprising to learn that its membership is now increasing. The most recent addition to the Temperance Alliance letterhead is "People Against Drinking and Driving". The automobile has transported the inebriate from the confines of the family circle to the public road, where he puts everyone, including himself, at risk. | Journal Title | Medical Journal of Australia | Journal Volume (Issue) | 141 (12/13) | Page Range | 778-779 | Page Count | 2 | Notes | available from CASR library on request |
