The effect of car size on occupant safety is considered in terms of the mass and the wheelbase of the car. Both American and Australian data show that car size is inversely related to the severity of the injuries sustained by the occupants. Potential hazards in the use of LP gas as a fuel are then noted. This is followed by a discussion of the effects of speed limits and some other traffic control practises on safety and fuel conservation. The conclusion is that there is a continuing need to monitor the safety effects of fuel conservation measures. | Report Number | SAE 82157, paper 27 | Publisher | Society of Automotive Engineers | Publisher City | Warrendale, Pennsylvania, USA | Sponsor | Society of Automotive Engineers Australia and the Australian Road Research Board | Conference Name | Second conference on Traffic, Energy and Emissions | Conference Abbreviation | SAE, ARRB | Conference Location | Melbourne, Australia | Conference Date | 19 - 21 May 1982 | Page Range | 27.1-27.9 | Page Count | 11 | Notes | available from CASR library on request |
