AbstractPedestrian fatalities account for 18% of the Australian road toll each year. Current road safety initiatives have reduced the number of deaths and injuries by almost 50% in the last 20 years however they now appear to be reaching their limit. This paper looks at the possibility of regulating the design of the front structures of passenger cars to improve the survivability of pedestrian crashes.
