TitleA study of head injury in fatally injured child pedestrians
AuthorsBrown J, Gorrie C, Waite PM, Gibson TJ, Anderson RWG, Griffiths M
Year2000
TypeConference Paper
AbstractFatal child pedestrian crashes have been collected and investigated in NSW over the last 5 years. Routine crash investigation techniques were used to investigate the

crashes, including inspection of vehicles involved and review of scene details, witness and Police statements. Injury details were collected from post mortem examination. Detailed analysis of brain injury was carried out using established neuro pathological techniques. Impact speed and crash sequence were estimated from crash investigation details. Cases selected for reconstruction were simulated using Madymo to verify impact velocity and pedestrian kinematics. Head impact trajectories were established using the Madymo simulations. Finally, head impacts were reconstructed using EEVC test equipment and vehicles identical to those involved in the real world crash.
