Lower travelling speeds have been shown to save both fuel and lives. Some other energy conservation measures have less desirable effects on road safety. To quote the Administrator
of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration of the United States Department of Transportation "Consumers do know when they switch to a small car to double the fuel economy, they may be doubling their risk of death in a crash" (Claybrook, 1980) | Sponsor | National Energy Research Development and Demonstration Council- Department of National Development and Energy | Conference Name | Motor Vehicle Fuel Conservation workshop | Conference Location | Melbourne, Australia | Conference Date | 24-25 February 1981 | Page Count | 15 | Notes | available from CASR library on request |
