Abstract	The aims of the review were to investigate the rationale for and impact of providing pedestrian facilities; to compile an inventory of available pedestrian facilities; and to identify the potential usefulness within South Australia of different types of pedestrian facility. The rationale for and impact of pedestrian facilities are discussed in terms of pedestrian safety, delay, warrants, vehicle safety, cost in relation to benefits, impacts on residents and businesses, and the requirements for different environments and pedestrian groups. The inventory of pedestrian facilities considers general crossing treatments, time separated facilities, and grade separated facilities.
