Concerns about the strength of stretcher hold down brackets led to the development of new brackets which were subjected to crash tests at 48 km/h. The tests revealed other weaknesses and demonstrated the need to consider all parts of the patient restraint system-harness, mattress, stretcher, brackets, and the connection of the brackets to the vehicle. All ambulances in SA are being upgraded to meet the new standard as a matter of urgency. As well, significant changes are being introduced in the areas of driving protocols and patient treatment in order to enhance the safety of crews and patients. | Journal Title | SAE Australasia | Journal Volume (Issue) | 53(1) | Page Range | 17-20 | Notes | Only available through SAE or University of Adelaide Barr Smith Library.
