AbstractPreface: The Council of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons is proud to have facilitated the preparation of this valuable book which stemmed from the initiative of Gordon Trinca, Chairman of the College's Road Trauma Committee. The College has recognised for some time the need for increased commitment by all sections of the medical profession in tackling the many complex issues related to road safety and traffic injury prevention. Doctors, individually and collectively, have to take the lead in finding solutions to the many health problems related to motorisation. We thank the eight persons who have given so generously of their time to discuss complex issues and to record their collective experiences acquired over long and distinguished careers in the traffic safety field.
