Regional and remote intersections are particularly dangerous for road users, due to high speeds and a widespread lack of safety measures beyond minimum control and sight distance requirements. The high cost of additional safety treatments means that they are often not employed, leaving a gap in road safety at many intersections. The Rural Junction Active Warning System (RJAWS) Lite has been developed as a low-cost, technology-driven treatment to help fill this safety gap as an evidence-based option for lower-volume regional intersections. RJAWS Lite has been trialled at six intersections in South Australia, with the trial concluding in June 2023.
