TitleTravelling speed, pedestrian protection. The role of travelling speed in car design
AuthorsMcLean AJ
Year2004
TypeConference Paper
AbstractPedestrian protection from injury in the event of a pedestrian/car collision depends primarily on the speed of the impact and the design of the car. This paper reviews information on travelling and impact speeds in fatal pedestrian accidents in an Australian metropolitan area and the effect that changes in travelling speed could be expected to have on the frequency of pedestrian fatalities. Approaches to changes in vehicle design for pedestrian protection are described briefly and the potential benefits are related to current speed limits and travelling and impact speeds
