Roadside hazards were found to be a serious road safety problem, especially in the more severe crashes. Trees were identified as the most common roadside hazard, and the most dangerous. A collision with a tree accounted for 23 per cent of all car occupant fatalities. Stobie poles were also identified as a significant roadside hazard, accounting for 8 per cent of all car occupant fatalities. | | Publisher | Australian Institute of traffic planning and management incorporated | | Publisher City | Adelaide | | Conference Name | Counting the cost, Australian Institute of Traffic Planning and Management | | Conference Abbreviation | AITPM | | Conference Location | Adelaide | | Conference Date | 10-11 June 1999 |
