AbstractFunded on a five-year basis by the National Health and Medical Research Council, the NH&MRC Road Accident Research Unit at the University of Adelaide is working mainly on studies of head injuries and drink driving. This paper provides a brief review of the work of the Unit with emphasis on international activities, with particular reference to comparisons of the extent of drink-driving in both the general and the accident-involved driving populations in Australia, Canada and the USA and to the role of motorcycle rider licensing in accident prevention in Adelaide, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and Suita, Japan.
