TitleUsing the abbreviated injury scale to evaluate head injury mortality risk
AuthorsSomers RL
Year1983
TypeReport
AbstractA new procedure was developed for quantifying severity of head injury with the Abbreviated Injury Scale. A simple coding scheme and a formula, the Head Injury Probability of Death Score (HIPODS), can be used to compare head-injury severity between trauma groups and to predict group mortality. The HIPODS was derived statistically from a Danish data set; it was validated on two additional data sets, one Danish and one Australian.
