TitleAlcohol and road accidents in Australia: corroborative population-based evidence
AuthorsMcMichael AJ, McLean AJ
Year1980
TypeJournal Article
AbstractDespite clinical reports and accident survey data from around the world linking alcohol consumption to road accidents, little attention has been paid to population-based trends in these variables. Such an approach is best suited for descriptive corroboration, and is necessarily unable to provide conclusive evidence of causal relationships. Nevertheless, in view of the large changes in per capita consumption of alcohol in Australia (and, indeed, in most countries) in recent decades, it is of interest to examine the relationship of these changes to variations in road accident rates.
