Postgraduate Research Position
A new postgraduate research position is to be made available from 2012 at the Centre for Automotive Safety Research. The project will be co-supervised at the University of Adelaide and the University of the Mediterranean (Université de la Méditerranée ) in Marseille, France. It is required that the student would spend a year in Salon-de-Provence in the South of France as part of their studies.
The project is to be run from the Centre for Automotive Safety Research, jointly with laboratories affiliated with the Université de la Méditerranée operated by IFSTTAR (The French institute of science and technology for transport, development and networks). CASR and IFSTTAR have entered into an MOU to facilitate collaboration in the area of road and vehicle safety. The project will concern vehicle safety and the assessment and rating of vehicles in this respect. This project will be the second of two similarly themed projects being run under CASR's collaboration with IFSTARR.
Increasingly, vehicles will be equipped with advanced driver assistance systems that will assist in the prevention of crashes. It is therefore likely that crash speeds will be reduced and hence the performance of more traditional crash safety systems (secondary safety) will be enhanced. The project will use a combination of in-depth crash investigation, impact/crash experiments and numerical crash simulation to investigate methods of integrating assessment of primary and secondary safety systems.
